Textures, gradients and really good paper

Yet another attempt at exploring water colours by doing another Kalacheva School extreme course. My 2018 started with a painting a day and this is what I have produced.

I have learned a lot about blending techniques, working with textures and leaving white paper not coloured (It has always been a challenge for me). What I loved the most was trying different light effects.

Challenges:

• Making sure there is some kind of lightness to the artwork and it looks effortless.
• Leaving white areas.

Lessons learned:

1. Never try to save by buying the cheapest paper. Just don’t.
